The Go See It trip to American Woodcarving School is on for this Saturday at 12:30 PM. This should be an excellent opportunity to tie together the art of woodcarving with our own Pinewood Derby experience. And during our next den meeting, the boys will practice their own woodcarving skills using plastic butter knives and bars of Ivory soap!
The whole experience will last only 20 minutes. The boys will learn about safety and will have the opportunity to observe woodworkers crafting their projects and ask questions. We will meet in the parking lot of American Woodcarving School at 12:30 PM and will enter the school at 12:35 sharp. We will depart the school at 12:55 PM. You will be headed home by 1:00 PM.
Please note that parental supervision is extremely important during this visit as we will be visiting a working school environment and the tools woodworkers use are sharp and can be very dangerous to curious 6 and 7 year old boys.
Thanks and see you at 12:30 on Saturday, January 17th!

This week's den meeting and a few schedule revisions!
THIS WEEK'S MEETING PREP:
For this week's den meeting on 1/14 at North Boulevard School, the theme will be A-MAZE-ING Games. I have a traditional Indian game we can teach the kids. Does anyone have any other games they can supply? Toss-Across, bean bags, marbles, etc are all good ones. Also, team games would be great for teaching cooperation. Any ideas or volunteers? Kevin Delaney, can I count on you for at least one good game of Simon Says? The boys loved the last one!
SNACKS. Will the snack volunteers please confirm we're covered for snacks? Thanks! :-)
Finally, parents, please review your son's Cub Scout handbook and/or the The Tiger Cub Trail handout I passed out at two previous meetings and let me know which electives your son has accomplished. I will need to submit for beads for the boys. If you have not spent time reviewing the electives they are supposed to be working on, please do so. The electives are done largely with their parent partner and families.
On another topic:

Den 8 Meeting Schedule for Jan-Mar 2009

Hello, all. Happy New Year!
I finally confirmed some dates with North Boulevard School. My apologies for not getting them out sooner...work has been "challenging" during these tough economic times and has been a major distraction.
Here's the schedule for the next few months:
JAN:
January 14th - 3:10 PM - Den Meeting @ NBS All Purpose Room
TBD (hopefully week of 1/12) - Setting up a "Go See It" at The American Woodcarving School in Wayne, NJ (need to confirm)
January 24th - 8:00 AM - PINEWOOD DERBY @ PV School (Pack Meeting)
FEB:
TBD (hopefully week of 2/2) - Go-See-It (need to confirm)
February 11th - 3:10 PM - Den Meeting @ NBS All Purpose Room
February 20th - Blue and Gold Pack Meeting @ PV School
MAR:
March 7th - 2:00 PM - "Go See It" Trip (destination TBD)
March 20th - 7:30 PM - Cub Scout Carnival Night @ PV School
NOTE: All Wednesday afternoons at NBS are booked. I will need to find an alternative time and/or alternative date and location for our March Den meetings. Sorry!
Dates may change and other dates may be added as I attempt to juggle the Go See It trips and my work/travel schedule. If anyone can volunteer to run one or two meetings, it would be greatly appreciated as my calendar is always crazy in the first several months of each business year.
